I?m a foodie.
Not quite to the level of shooting my every meal with my iPhone camera and uploading the pictures to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest, but I love good local food. I classify local fare as regional flavor?pierogies in Pittsburgh, crab cakes in Annapolis or an elk burger in Denver. My tendency is to lean to the locally owned spots because as the saying goes, ?they put their foot in it.?
I moved here from Fredericksburg in February, where I probably set some sort of record for the most locally owned restaurants visited?32 different eateries, no national chains in that tally. From farm-to-table tastes like Foode to local delicatessens whose sandwiches bare the names of the forefathers and their estates, I frequented them all.
Now as I wander about in Williamsburg and Hampton Roads, I?m on the hunt for the best dishes. So be a friend to your newly minted managing editor at The Health Journal and email me your favorite local gems. My email address is listed below.?
Speaking of setting records, check out our interview with Cirque du Soleil rope skipper Adrienn Banhegyi on p. 30 (online only for Williamsburg readers) and if I?ve made you hungry, be sure to read Jill Weisenberger?s piece on potassium-rich fruits and veggies. For those seeking to change their conviction on food and its role in your health and well-being, consider the benefits of health coaching, as reported by Natalie Miller Moore on p. 19.?
Now that April is here, it?s finally time to get outdoors, get some fresh air and enjoy spring. If you?re a golfer, our pre-season workout video (get the link on p. 41) is just for you. Be warned, though, it contains an earworm.?
?I like golfin?, I like golfin???
