The first-ever CLO survey from Gartner and ALM, a leading provider of news and information for the legal profession, provides important insights into CLOs? views on how IT is ? and should ? support the legal department. Gartner and ALM conducted the CLO survey in October 2011.? Four findings in particular stand out:

• Among CLOs who communicated with their enterprises? CIOs more than once a month, 76% reported having changed their legal strategies and 82% their corporate policies after conferring with CIOs.
• The top three priorities for the office of the CLO are compliance, client/customer satisfaction and risk management.
• Most CLOs, 76%, say that IT department support for the legal department is ad hoc. Only 16% report dedicated IT support.
• A large number of CLOs, 34%, report that IT failures have caused legal problems in their enterprises.

Bottomline ? Enterprises can benefit from a tigther CLO and CIO partnership.
